One way or the other the Starks win and Littlefinger plays a role. Ramsay is finished.

I think this is the first battle where the outcome is essentially guaranteed. The Starks CANNOT loose. It would be narrative insanity. Now, I do think they'll need to have their asses saved by Littlefinger. But Ramsay is going down hard. Maybe if there were anyone else on Ramsay's side who mattered, I would think otherwise.

I don't think I'll like this episode. Or the finale. Just a feeling.

I'm expecting to like this episode, but not be blown away. The stakes just don't feel too high to me, unlike Blackwater. Again, because it's basically just Ramsay vs 4 main characters. I'm far more excited for the Finale, King's Landing has been my jam this season.

Maybe part of my problem with this upcoming Battle is that Jon's plan is basically suicidal, and they don't seem to be employing any sort of tactics in that preview.

I'm lowering my expectations to the floor. The last couple of episodes lost the momentum and ended up treading water IMO. First half of the season was ace, and then the last three episodes killed it. I'm not sure these last two will bounce back.

Like you said, I feel zero tension regarding the battle. Same was true for The Watchers on the Wall, and the Wildlings were far more fleshed out there than Ramsay's forces are here. The only time a battle had me off base was Blackwater, other times there was just too much plot armor.

Then we have the finale. Even the longest episode of GOT won't be long enough to deliver all the climaxes we need to wrap up the season's story arcs properly. Meereen especially is far from a conclusion. Then we have the King's Landing stuff, post battle North stuff, Bran (who is also far from any sort of conclusion- unless they just leave him hanging and just count on episode 5 as his climax- which would suck IMO), some Sam, some Dorne probably (which will suck as always) and god knows what to expect from Arya, Jaime and the Hound.

Cosca, I don't think we can discuss the preview. I mean it is why I deleted my previous comment. But if it's ok then I will say that the ep has me excited. I do expect something terrible to happen though to the Stark side, because I too believe it is almost impossible for Ramsay to win ONCE MORE the Battle of Winterfell. Considering the words Jon says to Mel I think I suddenly am very scared. Could it be a foreshadow?!

Given the preview is posted at the top of this thread, I can't imagine why we wouldn't be allowed to discuss it.

I'm intrigued by what seems to me like Jon offering to fight Ramsay one on one in an effort to spare others from having to fight and die. Since there's a battle, it's obvious Ramsay will not take Jon up on his offer. I hope, though, we do get to see them fight one-on-one. We know Jon is one helluva fighter, plus he has the advantage of Longclaw. Come to think of it, I can't really recall seeing Ramsay fight. Am I just having a huge pbrain-fart?

It's true the Battle for the Wall had that problem, though I think the buildup here has been better since it wasn't just Jon and Sansa doing nothing for 8 episodes. And I still think that episode was very good despite that, so I still have fairly high hopes.

Finale's gonna have to be a whole bunch of climactic scenes, that's for sure. Which makes me think that this coming episode won't be 100% the North.

I have a feeling that Jaime and the Hound will be left out The Hound material in particular seemed like Season 7 setup. Bran will probably get to the Wall, which could very well coincide with it collapsing. Arya, arriving in Westeros maybe? I think Dorne will come back with Varys negotiating an alliance, since I can't imagine where else he could be going.

Yeah, I think your mind has erased Yara's rescue scene (mercifully perhaps). Ramsay can handle himself.

And yeah, I assume it's alright to discuss the preview, it's in the thread right?

Ah, yes, I had forgotten about that scene.  I'll have to rewatch it, because in thinking back on it, I don't recall seeing Ramsay doing much fighting.  I remember him having lots of blood on him, and I remember him releasing the dogs, but not much else.

Edit:  Having rewatched the scene, yes, we do see Ramsay fight a little.  What I had remembered most about that scene was how phenomenal I thought Alfie was.

So maybe Season 6 is about Starks regaining Winterfell and Season 7 will be about Everybody versus the White Walkers? Except Cersei who will have burned King's Landing?

I'm still wondering if this episode will be all Snowbowl, or if it will cut back and forth between Snowbowl and the battle in Meereen. As one who isn't a big fan of battles, not that I hate them, or anything, but an hour of nothing but a battle is a bit much for me, I'm hoping we'll have some smaller, quieter scenes. We have a conversation between Jon and Mel, it appears, and Davos finding Shireen's pyre. I'm hoping, whatever his ultimate fate, we get some dialogue with Rickon, and hopefully, we'll get some northern family switiching sides to the Starks.

Question: I'd like to mention some info. from filming/casting, but it says no book spoilers. Of course, this isn't from the books, but I'm erring on the side of caution and not even putting it under spoiler code. So, where would I put it? Book to screen adaptation doesn't really apply, since it isn't adapted from the books.

As far as I know and all the promo materials this will be a focused episode like Blackwater and Watchers on the Wall. No other plotlines.

Maybe S7 will be the North trying to unite as many as the other Houses in Westeros as they can to deal with the WW and perhaps the Wall coming down. Sort of like Robb did, but without the war. On the other hand, we should have Dany's invasion, which would put them at odds at first.

As for this episode, I don't care one bit if the outcome is predictable. It's finally the Starks vs that shitbag, and the shitbag is going down. Ffffffyeaaaaah! Plus it's Sapochnik, it will be visually amazing.

I don't want anyone to die from the Stark side! I just suspect it won't be all smooth sailing. Time has some % rating on who's about to die and they put Tormund and Ramsay at over 90% sure. I hope they're wrong about Tormund. Oh, Ghost at 50% ?! Really?! Funniest is LF at 1% I have no doubt that even if he does join the fray and helps Sansa (assuming that's who she wrote to for help) he definitely is the last to be killed in battle.

Per an article today on WotW (don't read what's under the code if you don't want to know any details...no, nothing like who is going to die, or anything, just a clearer picture of what we can expect).

No problem!

I actually like it. What I really didn't want, although I know people were over-the-moon about the episode, is another Watchers on the Wall, where the entire episode was focused only on one location. Battle scenes are fine, even long ones, but that, as someone who isn't into seeing an hour-long battle, no matter how well it's done, was too much for me. It took me a couple of sittings to make it all the way through that episode. Blackwater, I thought, had a better balance in terms of smaller, quieter scenes away from the battle. It sounds like BoB will have a better balance, as well, which is more in line with what I, personally, enjoy more.

Agreed Nym.

I also think the Hardhome setup was the best so far in terms of battle screentime. It made sense for Blackwater, less so for The Watchers on the Walls- but Hardome was the most satisfying of the three as an episode (and I say that even though I prefer the dramatic beats of Blackwater) simply because it wasn't too much.

Oh boy! Too much emo. I can't believe we lost both Wun Wun and Rickon I don't have the words for how relieved I was to see the Riders of Rohan charge into battle yippie Thank you Petyr Baelish for keeping your word for ONCE. Not that I trust you did that for the love of Sansa teehee

Tormund ate the Umber. I guess the North is not his

LOVED FUCKING MEEREEN! I finally love show Meereen yippie Dracarys every day and twice on Sunday! I think the Ironborn meet Targ scene was pretty well acted and good script too. The two ladies connected. highfive and in truth they do have a similar background. Sort of. Theon speaking on his sister's behalf

I got more but I must rewatch.

Great episode. I liked how Rickon actually saw his brother and probably his sister before he died. I thought his time was limited and this was way better than dying like Ramsay did. It's sad but "acceptable" in lieu of an appropriate term. Figured the Vale would come and save the day, just hope Sansa didn't promise Littlefinger anything in return for it. Glad Tormund didn't die and still don't like the decision to put an Umber on the side of the Boltons but hey, it was short lived. Love Tyrion in this role as kind of small counsel for Dany (no pun intended ). Like the banter between Yara and Dany. Dany looks to Tyrion for his nod and that's a good thing. She needs to acclimate herself with all the other Westeros houses and he will be good for that. Still best season since 3, imo. 8/10.

Alright, both of the battles this episode were insanely good. Battle of Winterfell had my heart racing. It was thrilling and awful and everything you could want from a battle. The Dany stuff was beautiful looking, and I liked the scene with the Greyjoys.

That said, I have a major complaint: Why the fuck didn't Sansa just tell him about the Army of the Vale? It would be the perfect way to stop Jon going into battle! She could have saved hundreds of lives. I really hope they address this next episode, in a major way.

Did Karstark die by the way? I lost track.

Lyanna - I was so happy to hear what Tyrion said to Dany about her father (not just 'cause of the wildfire name-drop). I'm even happier she listened to him!

Cosca - I really don't think Jon would have waited for an army that may or may not arrive. He'd already said he wouldn't wait for more men, Sansa didn't know if LF would come through, and I don't think there's anyway Jon would have changed his mind and decide to wait for an army that may or may not arrive.

Oki, recovered a little.

What a wonderful line, "the one we've got".
I smell exile for Mel next ep. Maybe she'll meet Bran next season.

Amazing shot of Jon facing the cavalry charge, had me in tears. Tormund an Davos, such a nice scene. For once Dany riding a dragon didn't suck. Greyworm was ace, Yara showed she can do diplomacy as well, poor Rickon getting the Olly-no-lines-treatment, and fuck Umbers. Great stuntwork with the horses, stunning shots.
Sapochnik is wonderful. Best director this show ever had.

The battle scene was great. Most of the rest of the episode was pretty average. Dinklage (or the writers) are still phoning it in. I don't think Jon really is stupid enough to charge across the field like that. How long does it take for boats to sail from the ass end of Westeros to the ass end of Essos? I am sure some enterprising folks out there have done some nifty, time-bending, chronologies.

And, seriously, who let the dogs out? Who? Who? Who?

I thought that was less charging and more running below the range of the archers, once he realized his position. He couldn't run back to his men, he realized he had been trapped and that added to the fury and frustration that he felt when he couldn't save Rickon, so he wasn't thinking straight.
I thought they did a great job with Jon this episode showing that even inspiring leaders have blind spots. I think we were all expecting Jon to be much more ruthless after being brought back, but I like their version of Jon more.

Well now I've had time to mull it over . .
I was not looking forward to this as normally I get lost in battle scenes , too much to see all at once .
Mereen for once was brilliant !! Sassy Danny . The babies escaping and Greyworm had some moves 😉
Then we are gently led to the battle with the sound off BASTARD! Little leanna 's face !!! Ha ha !
Like many have said the deaths were predicable and we knew LF would aid . . But my God they made us suffer first !! The battle was THE best I've seen . . I was in there with Jon the whole way
And as for Ramsey . Best end .

Best battle episode to date.
Meereen was a spectacle. Dragons gone wild, CGI budget through the roof. Didn't like the out of nowhere appearance of the Greyjoys in Meereen but the scene itself was good.
Winterfell was fantastic. Odd that Ghost was a no-show, but that's much better than dead which is what I expected. Jon being stomped was just hard to watch. I feel like one of Tormund and Davos should have died to stay true to the Thrones way but I'm glad they didn't.

Finally the good guys win. It's a pitty Rickon didn't have a single scene longer than twenty seconds or a single line. They really should have given both him and Osha more scenes to make their deaths impactful. As is they became plot devices. But that's a complaint about the season as a whole.

This episode was fantastic. Ramsay's death was great. Good riddance.

Funny how even after they throw shaggydog's head on the mud i still didn't miss Ghost, didn't even thought about it til after the ep.

Jon's rise trough the mud was fucking epic. I've seen people getting stomped in real life and that scene was very well done.

The Riders of Rohan i mean the Knights of the Vale made miss playing Total War.

The Jon and Sansa scene was truly remarkable. Both actors nailed it. Even the music didnt suck (like it did during the Mereen dragon attack).
