They could pull something where you definitely think the opportunity to bring him back has passed and then in Ep9 there's a slo-mo shot of him walking onto the battlefield like a badass in Stark armor...

I agree, that would be epic. And makes sense, too many things happening this season to also have a Jon Snow storyline going at the same time. Bench him till he can make  a helluva entrance.

Soooooooooo... about that Dorne storyline. I'm cool with it for the show, but I will hunt GRRM down myself if that's how he resolves it in the books.

Well, we didn't like Dorne, but damn I did not expect a hard reset like that! freakout
So sad for Doran, Criminally underused.

Dorne needs to simply sink into the sea and just go away, D&D have totally made it something awful, killing off the decent characters and leaving us with bad-Elia and the hopeless Sand Snakes

I don't want the books to wrap up that way but I think this works in the context of the show... I was just SO SO surprised. I wonder if D&D were planning this all the long, pulling a "Sean Bean as Eddard Stark" jobbie with Siddig.

Sorry, I put this in the wrong place to start with, needs to go here: Doran done? Ugh, not liking that. We get these wonderful actors and they get roles sized down to nothing. I'm with TW on that theory as well. Missed the Spider and Tyrion, they are great together. They are going to put Dany in a Dothraki convent?

I agree, Anguissette, I think it works in the context of the show. That doesn't mean I liked it, but that also has something to do with Siddig hardly being used, at all.

I enjoyed the rest of the episode. I thought, in fact, there were some great moments in it...

Opening with Ghost howling.
Sansa and Brienne, and the call back to Brienne and Catelyn got me.
I also loved seeing Theon pick up a sword.
I think most folks, at least book-readers, knew something was up with Melisandre. Now we know what.

So now that glamouring has been established... what are we going to do with it? Saw someone comment on WotW that what if the real JS is actually dead dead and they glamour someone to look like him and it's Fake!JS from here on out?

There's also the possibility of MS pulling a Beric and sacrificing her old ass self to bring him back...

And you have to wonder if Obara and Nym will stick around KL to cause trouble only to be captured and horribly killed by crazypants Cersei. It's clear that Dorne is not end-game critical in the show that may even be the extent of what they filmed this year!

Lets get this out of the way. The hard reset of Dorne was shocking. While I am happy that they seem to be culling that storyline quickly, I was really heartbroken that Siddig had so little to do. But of such a large sprawling cast, something had to give now that the Iron Islands and Bran are back.

So we agree that Cersei is gonna kill Ellaria and the Sandsnakes? Yes? Onward!

Favorite moment was when Brianne, finally, FINALLY got to honor her oath. The way that scene mirrored the scene with Catelyn back in season two really brought the feels. And I have no idea where it is going! So cool.

Love me some Davos, the way he rallied the remaining Jon Snow loyalists was wonderful. Loved that Edd went to rally the Wildlings...did not like they spaced this out over two episodes though.

But if you really stop to think about it, why are they guarding his body? WE know why, but why would THEY do that? Dead is dead, right? Or maybe they aren't really guarding a body, but just holing up for reinforcements to kill the traitors.

From the books we knew that Melly Sanders used glamours for illusions on others, makes only sense she did them on herself.

Ewwwww Stannis totally boned that!

Why are we even having this thread, there are hardly any book spoilers left!

I think they are just caught in that room with nowhere else to go for now, and probably also feel it's their duty to watch over Jon's body until it gets a proper burning. Seeing the way he was murdered, someone could try to hide or desecrate the body.
Looks like no Castle Black in episode 2, huh?

Why hasn't he weighted out already . . They seem to burn em pretty quick as a rule . . . Love Ghost though I thought he felt too small . . Totally not shocked about Mel . Though a little shocked at her feeling sorry for herself , doesn't seem the type. Loved Brienne, Sansa and Theon, Pod.

Yeah Bents, I think about Mel is starting to second-guess her God. Even though I remember reading somewhere that she was hundred years old or so I was still pretty surprised at the end, it was done really well.

Fuck Dorne. It was never good, book or show. Hopefully this means it's essentially done as a storyline, and we don't have to suffer through more than a couple more scenes of it this season. Also: I totally saw this coming, if not this soon. Doran gave Ellaria an ultimatum, it was kill him, run away or be executed.

Keeping the glamour is interesting. It was a nice vulnerable moment for Melisandre, but I hope they dispense with the nonsense of her using it to disguise other people. That Mance-Rattleshirt switcheroo was a ridiculous plot-point in Dance.

Look at Cosca how negative he is in this thread!!! How come you are so negative in THIS particular thread, eh?! I must admit, I was willing to give show Dorne a chance. All the way to the end, but it's bad even standing on it's own. A more cursory footnote than anything else. Book Dorne is so different! Good different thankfully booty I trust they will do way better with the Ironborn.

Got it, must have missed it. So I suppose that with Edd bringing the wildlings back we'll see the end of Thorne.

Gonna go off track here for a bit but if Jon is brought back and heads for Winterfell later on, does that mean that...EDD WILL BE LEFT IN CHARGE OF THE WALL?? yippie

Oh wait...WW are coming. Shit.

I found I just had to separate the books from HBO or I would just be pissy. I can't help but wonder if GRRM is going to do things way different from HBO and decided to let D&D do whatever they wanted outside of what he (Martin) was actually going to do. This way the book fans could still look forward to his version of GOT. Just sayin'.

Martin is full of shit. He whined when the Redwyne twins weren't in the show because he insisted they had a roles to play in future books. I think about then was when he started throwing around the Butterfly Effect. When HBO excises the book bloat, it hurts Martin's ego and it provides hints to readers what is important to the core of the story. Martin loves his world building more than he cares for telling a competent narrative.

Dollars to donuts he is going to retcon a bunch of meaningless book shit to make said shit essential to ASOIAF to make HBO look bad in the eyes of his leal readers.

Yup, I probably think he will wait for the show to end and THEN start the retcon. Winds of Winter will come out in 2020.

Fully agreed Atreyu, the retcons are coming. No doubt that'll make the book narrative even more sprawling and unsatisfying.

That said, the major stuff is staying the same. They could massacre Dorne because it's most likely irrelevant to the endgame, just as Aegon is. I doubt we'll be getting many other unlikely diversions.

It's looking, at least to me, more and more like what's ultimately going to be important, both in book-Dorne the show-Dorne, are the Sand Snakes. Martin said he hoped people liked them, 'cause they'd be wreaking some havoc in TWOW (paraphrasing...too lazy to look up his exact wording). Lo and behold, Nymeria is in KL in both books and show, and one other Sand Snake is, too, albeit a different one.

We might have to think who the antagonists will be this season.
I think the faith militant will be trounced by the Lannister army, but I doubt Margaery will make good with Cersei again.
I doubt Dorne will go to war, Ellaria and the SS simply want revenge so them aiming for Cersei and possibly Tommen might be a posibility.
In the North I think Winterfell might be taken back by Stark loyalists/ Wildling Super Team. And I think one of the Boltons will die, most likely papa Roose.
They are basically eradicating the human element to make way for the real enemy which is the Nights King and the Wight Army.
In Essos Dany will use the Dotharki as her army, or she will just say fuckit and just fly over on Drogon.
Tyrion might do the same, finding Meereen hopeless and training Vyserion and Rhaegal and getting the hell outta dodge.
No idea what the Iron islands will do in the middle of all this.

Euron attacking Oldtown kind of makes sense to me. Presumably it's a wealthy place, and it would be a handy way to get Sam out of there quickly after finding whatever handy information he needs to find.

I don't think the faith militant will go down this season just like that, they seemed to be building it to last longer than that (then again, after Dorne and Doran, who the heck knows) and let's not forget they have the support of the common folk. I don't think the Lannisters will rule in KL much longer. If Tommen dies this season, i think we're looking at the Lannisters being forced to retreat to Casterly Rock. There is no way they can hold KL without any claim to the throne. At least the Tyrells have been feeding people and if nothing really bad happens to Loras or Margaery, I can see them allying with the Faith and turning against the Lannisters easily.

What I think happens:

Dany/Ironborn: her ships are all burned, but she needs to set off ti Westeros by the end of the season one way or the other. Que Yara and the Iron Fleet. Now she will come in and make Dany an offer- as opposed to stealing the dragons (which is what Euron wants) she'll give Dany the horn (which allows her to control her babies) and her ships with the promise that Dany will set off to eradicate Euron and hand her the Iron Islands. Euron, as we already agreed on, is heading for Oldtown. Sam is already there, learning some important White Walker prophecy stuff, and he'll get mixed up in all that shit. By the end of the 2017 season (be it season 7 or 7 part 1), I expect Dany and Euron to have a huge battle at Oldtown with ships and all- and in the aftermath, Dany will meet Sam- and he tells her everything she needs to know about the White Walkers.

Cersei/Dorne/Tyrells: well, I'm fairly certain she's going to lose her shit and burn down King's Landing. But before we get to that point, Tommen will need to die and Dany will need to be on the move. So I think season 6 will focus on Cersei eliminating various rivalries- the Faith, Dorne and the Tyrells. And in the end, Tommen dies anyway. Don't know exactly what they're planning with Dorne, but it's clear now that they aren't a storyline in their own right and are just Cersei-fodder. I hope the Sand Snakes remain in King's Landing and do something later in the season, but with the quality of that storyline I wouldn't be shocked if they just turn back to Dorne and disappear for the rest of the season. On the High Sparrow, I think Cersei will kill him in a brutal show of power- and the Tyrells will live on for the post-Tommen power struggle in King's Landing. Either way, it ends with Cersei burning it all down and running off to Casterly Rock. And then we'll have one big, final Lannister sibling reunion at their home.

Yeah, I pretty much see both Jaime and Cersei meeting their ends back home. No idea how poor Tommen will get offed tho. Maybe they should take a break from murder and just go with a disease instead.

If the Tyrells are left to feed King's Landing and Cersei and Jaime stuck there with or without Tommen, Cersei will burn the city down and if they can, they will retreat to Casterly Rock. Jaime may find out about Cersei's infidelities during this process and after Tommen dies, become the Valonquar which will leave him to do what????? Will he be driven from Casterly Rock? Remember there is no more gold in Lannister mines. Will Jaime join in fighting the White Walkers? Will he and Brienne go down fighting the White Walkers together?

I hope Euron gets a stake through the back of his head!! He is a real creep too.

Somehow I think Ramsey will be killed by supernatural forces, i.e. some WW something, maybe as he runs north after Winterfell is reclaimed by Sansa and Jon. Rickon better not be touched or I will lose it.

So we got Euron killing Balon and getting himself a kingsmoot. I think it's safe to say Yara is going to be the Vic for Dany's Meereen to Westeros back trip. Some have already speculated that. I like that Davos was the one to ask but that was unexpected. I'm still on Mel burns Shireen for Jon as far as the books go once Stannis dies. And we are getting TOJ next week freakout heard "now it ends!" And I died a little inside!

So, so glad to see Winterfell when Starks were wee things. Made the episode for me. Could not tell if that was Crow's Eye or Vic, too dark on my screen, waaay overdue. Figured Roose or the Bastard was going, wasn't sure which, but yep, was waiting for that one. King Butters, so cute, trying to make mom seem human. Works for non-book readers I guess. Of course, Jon Snow and the woofer, awesome. Liked much better than last week. coastercoaster

So it seems the Umbers are bringing a "gift" to Ramsay next week. Some speculate since Rickon and Osha went to the Last Hearth in season 3 that they are being given as hostages.

So might this be how the "pink letter" makes it to the show? With Ramsay sending a taunting letter to Jon, saying he has his little half-brother as a hostage?

I was hoping that wouldn't happen, but it does look like it. Rickon and Osha are fucked. Wouldn't be surprised if they both die this season... :(

Also, we get the ToJ earlier than expected, we get to see the reactions to Jon's resurrection, which'll be interesting. I also think Arya will stop being blind and enter the next phase of her training. Which should be that theatre troup.
