Chat made me think of this post. Do you know why this date is significant? That is the date that a Storm of Swords was published, arguably GMs last decent novel. This year marks the 17th anniversary of that historic date. So, where were you when it came out? Obviously, GM was just planning an extended vacation from writing.

I was in England, Scotland, and Wales. Took a two week vacation after college graduation with my girlfriend at the time. Prior to our trip, a friend who was also into reading sci fi fantasy, suggested I read A Game of Thrones on the flight over. August 8th I was in Stirling Scotland probably on my way to the William Wallace museum while looking for the bridge that did not exist but which made the Battle of Stirling Bridge historical.
She was a good lay, but couldn't hike for shit.

lol never mind about my grandparents, I mixed up the years. I was happy that summer.
EDIT: I forgot: it will pass 2 years until I happen to see his books. I mean, they probably were on the shelves but fantasy wasn't high on my list. And I blame Barns & Noble because they had and still do everything by "category". I never visited sci-fi and fantasy shelves unless I was making a bee line for the coffeeshop and even them it was a max of 30 seconds flat.

Well, we survived the Y2K so, where was I? Newly divorced with two pre-teen boys in my current home. No GOT for me at that point in time.
