We should have a list of who's NOT dying this ep above the Neck...
I only got one sure thing on my list: Bran. Everyone else's chances look suspicious to me.

yep, but he's in KL not north of the Neck. But maybe you're right about that and Jon is safe because he's dead already. And Beric is as well. Also: where the hell is GW and his Unsullied? Did Dany called them back as Tyrion suggested?! Supposedly they have no food and they can't hold CR. Euron is also gone missing and doesn't look like he'll appear in this ep either. Not that I'm missing him

I don't know why, but I think Jon Snow is looking damn sexy in those furs outfit. That never happened to me before

Also: I did a double take yesterday. Because at one point I saw in the preview that

Simply amazing.

Am I the only one who started going through a thousand different scenarios for the rest of the series in my head during the 90 seconds I though Jon might be dead? It's almost a shame they didn't go through with it.

And a dragon wight?!?!? That's a possibility I never even remotely considered. Total game changer. I love where this is going.

Holy shit, still gathering my thoughts.

The B plot at Winterfell between Arya and Sansa, I hope that gets resolved quickly. Arya had the weakest story last season, and it seems a repeat.

That battle tho, holy shit everything...and when the Dragons swooped it...I mean blockbuster moment.

Don't talk about the dragon to me tho...I am still

I hated that episode for multiple reasons. Maybe I just hate watching the disastrous fruits of a stupid plan.

I'm completely in agreement that it's a stupid, contrived scenario. But I loved where they went with it. The little interactions between characters were fabulous. It's exactly what this season has been lacking.

More than losing one. Giving one to the Night King. Next we'll see him riding around on it, raining fire on Castle Black.

BaS hit it spot on, every little scene was perfection. Kudos to the writers and the actors. Yes, the plan was dumb, capturing the wight was dumb, but considering how little time is left in the show, they needed to do something.

As far as all the acting in the ep, didnt think there was a bad one, even angry Dany.

Alan Taylor can stick his slo mos up his ass.

Best critique i've read so far: www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2017/aug/21/game-of-thrones-the-best-show-on-tv-just-became-the-silliest

It really nails all the main problems though i think they all stem from their decision to shorten the seasons so much. Now they have to cut everything down to the bare bones, *point-a-to-point-b* action and the plot is clearly suffering because of it.

While I don't think the show has become silly, per-se.
It HAS clearly shifted, whereas it used to be a nuanced character driven tv show with occasional big moments.

It has flipped, now the big moments are more frequent, in a way that is great, because the show rivals most Hollywood films in that regard. And there is the thing, most blockbuster films are mindless and are filled with tropes and plot issues that has been creeping into this show.

In a way the character work from the previous seasons has buoyed us thusfar and should be enough for the final 7 episodes of the show, but I would be lying if I did not miss the subtler character stuff that made us love the show in the first place.

While I agree it is certainly rushed and logic flushed down the loo, to say that there has been no character depth is false.  This last episode had some of the best character dialogue and interaction.  Small little scenes that carried tremendous weight.  I have never been one to harp on the implausible with this show, so I am ok with D&D defying logic and sense for the sake of ending this show, as long as we get those snippets.  For me, its all worth it and I forgive all the other garbage, or else I wouldnt watch anymore.

I do think the wight idea was absurd.  And I am pretty sure this is not GMs plan for the books.  There are certainly some scenes that I think they could have made better and provided more depth, but overall they have done a good job with what little time they have and I am still excited that they are wrapping this up full steam ahead.

I think they started loving some of these characters. I'm sure about 4 of them should have been dead after last week's ep. I do wonder why would Sandor go south out of everyone else... Will there be hype?!

Other than that, I feel like Winterfell has a weird vibe and clearly, tag and bag a wight was a wtf plan followed by the athletic Olympian abilities of Gendry Dude, seriously can run. I feel like he's the Pheidippides. Except he didn't run for victory, but for help.

Loved everything Tormund. He and Sandor can do a spin off. Love triangle with Bri!

I commented that he ran like a trail runner. Head down, less arm movement. So, say what you will about Forest Gump, they got the motion accurate for the terrain.

Yeah, but those are snippets here and there, most characters suffered this season, too many ends to tie up and not enough EPS, I still don't see the point of 7 then 6 eps per season, 2 or 3 10 eps seasons to wrap it up would be best.

my God Ry!!! Yes, he totally nailed the form! So we got a swim team gold (brown and Jaime), a diving men's solo (Tommen) and now a marathon runner! I'd have figured him for a hammer thrower or something.

Beric >>>>>> unresolved narrative oddity Lady Stoneheart

I really hate the Arya-Sansa storyline though. Unless they manage to totally flip it, I will be most dissatisfied. I think D&D really dropped the ball on that one.

And about the Raven Eastwatch to Dragonstone connection all I have to say is: Listen, in order to maintain air-speed velocity, a Raven
needs to beat its wings 43 times every second, right?

the raven is coming! www.flyravn.com/ Or MAYBE the raven they sent was glamoured and it was really this guy: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peregrine_falcon Either way it's Gendry who broke the barrier speed.

But was it an Westerosi Raven or was it from Essos? Could it even manage to maintain airspeed with the message attached to its leg?

I politely disagree, re: the show shifting to 'big Hollywood moments, tropes, plot issues'.
The tropes were always there. Same with the teleporting. This is just a reality of the TV medium. Only have a span of less than sixty minutes per episode, unlike the bloated Gurm pooks.
Do we really need constant shots of people travelling by horse, boat, whatever? To really hammer home the point that they are moving? When it was done in previous seasons it was mostly to drop exposition, not to appease book purists in regards to a fictional world's geography.
Tropes were there too. The Lannister cavalry arrives just in time to defeat Stannis in the Blackwater. Stannis rides and saves Jon et al at Castle Black from the wildlings. Drogon arrives to save Dany at Daznak's Pit.
But for some reason peeps seem to think that as soon as the show was unshackled from the pooks the "deus ex" tropes started to seep in.

Inconsistencies, plot issues, etc. They were there before. Faceless Men.
At Harrenhal: "Join me, Arya, and you'll be able to complete your kill list."
At Braavos: "Lol dumb girl those lives aren't yours to take".

It is true we don't get many exciting/memorable monologues, but tbh I'm fine with that. After 60+ episodes of building up, just give me the whole Hollywood shebang. Things exploding. Dragons burning people. Ice zombie army.

They killed bad pussy and i'm still not over it, those monsters! She was a key character because several point plots would depend on her and the show is LITERALLY unwatchable now!

Loved Tormund this episode, he and the hound and their dialogue, "Brienne of Faqing Tarth?" "I want to have large babies with her", just had me laughing so, so hard.  Call me juvenile.  My theory on the dragon of ice is:

Spoiler
The other dragons may have to kill their own brother, how awful.  The Night's King didn't even have to use a horn to do it, the poophead. Didn't like the Hound using Gendry's hammer - there can be only one!!! Doesn't appear that it was covered in dragon glass either, unfortunately.  I love Arya.  There is a set up going on there between she and Sansa and Littlefinger and it'll come to fruition soon enough but I love Maisie's acting right now.  Dany sees John's stab wound freakout, don't kiss him, he's your nephew puke

Interesting about Viserion getting resurrected: it looked like he's turned much like the little baby in season 4 by touch into an White Walker rather than a wight. I mean the method was quite different than raising the wights with the power of the will, didn't it? If that is true, then he will be impervious to dragonfire or any fire for that matter. The Walkers walked right through the fire before and the NK stepped through the dragon fire to shoot his spear at Viserion and the flames subsided. Just a theory. After all we never saw a WW in animal form before.

Snowblower? Hahaha well who knows. Dany is fireproof, so a dragon that has icy breath might be fun, or blue flame?!

Difference is, that baby was alive. Viserion was already a corpse. I think it's safe to say it's a wight and not a WW.

This article is bad. Just for starters the dude doesn't even know what the word exposition means. And yeah this episode was dumb in places but I don't think the whole season has been, and I definitely think the characters have been largely on-point. People have an odd memory when it comes to this show. Most of the relationships were formed in one or two short scenes, because most of the characters only get like 8 minutes screentime a year! What I've really liked this season is that all the main players are getting really solid screentime, they're in every episode where before Arya would be in every second episode. I think that makes up for the pacing and flow problems you get from skipping the travel times.

Anyway, good to see this place has a more diverse view than the rest of the internet. Missed you folks, should have been coming here during the season.
