Hello Fleas,

I hate to write this post, but we have to deal with the state of the forum.

Some of you might know that I was thinking of putting the forum in hibernation between season 6 and 7, due to the large drop in traffic we have been having. But we held off on that last time.

You can see in our number of visitors have been steadily dropping, and the season review threads have been in a nosedive, below you can see the numbers from season 5,6 and finally season 7.

Many of our regulars have moved on, and the long hiatus' between seasons don't help, as coming to a ghost town forum is not much fun so people go away and don't come back.

Now we are facing a 16-18 month hiatus and I really doubt we will get a spike when it returns, it doesn't seem like that will happen. I really don't want to pay our hosting for something that is barely on life support.

What do we do next? I would like to ask you. I know some of you do not have social media and this site is the only way to interact and that breaks my heart, but surely we can find other ways to stay in touch? Hibernation is an option and we bring the forum back to life one last time to see off the final season of the show. 

We have been here since season 2, we deserve at least a last chance before we go.

We've had an awesome run and made wonderful friendships. I imagine that running the forum still takes a lot of time with little reward at this point, so I understand the urge to pull the plug. In the end, you should do whatever you think is best, Donnie. This is your baby.

Donnie huggs you're the boss. I know it's gotta be hard to write that. Whatever you guys decide I'm cool. I'm def not on social media. But I do go around on different GOT forums some of you may read, so here are my nicks on some sites if you guys wanna say hi: Evenstar, Strider, ElizaDoolittle, Nyx and of course TW.

That's a real shame, and I fully realise I am part of the problem given my total absence this year. Given that, I can't say I deserve an opinion, entirely up to you Don, and the other OG fleas. But hey, IWC could do with the boost too if you wanna migrate!

Don, you've done a great job and this site has provided me a lot of fun. I really appreciate all of it. Iswintercoming has something for just about everyone, but you have to deal with the shitty mods. So if it's time to draw the curtain there's a place to go.

It doesn't make any sense to pay for hosting, but is there anyway of moving it to a free solution?

So the consensus is that we renew our hosting one last time, December 30th will be our last day.

Then the forum will return to the free version, all posts will be archived and readable. But features like chats, avatars, picture uploads and titles will go away.

The forum will stay fully featured till December, I am talking to our hosting to see what we lose when revert to the free version of the site, and if we can even revive it after 16 months. Will keep posted.

In short, everything posts and pictures stay.
We lose chat and our URL, we will become: fleabottom.activeboard.com
When we pay our hosting fee again, we get everything back as it is now.

So the plan is: In December we go into hibernation till the first trailer hits for season 8, we will
re-up the forum fee and stay active for the last season.

After that we will shutter permanently.

Rhaegar, despite wounding Robert, was struck down with a massive blow from Robert's warhammer, which scattered the rubies encrusted in Rhaegar's armor under the water.  Rhaegar died with Lyanna Stark's name on his lips.

Important update...the forum will be closing on February 28th....and we will reopen in full when the first trailer for season 8 ( probably around December )
So anyone who wants to remain in touch should exchange alternate contact info.

 www.fleabottom.net will close, a free version of this forum will go live at www.activeboard.com/fleabottom

But the very unhelpful helpdesk says that our full site has a lot of custom content, like forum structure, smileys etc and that might not translate well to the free version and might just be plain messy. We shall see.
