YvyB, the Allister Thorne theory is an interesting one, I remember reading it before and it does hold some ground. Heh, probably one of the most interesting theory people have come up with re: the hooded man in Winterfell is that he's Theon's own reflection. I'm not adhering to that, but I thought it was really awesome people came up with that.
I know! Ha ! Like a Smeagol / Gollum moment... they came up with a name as well ... can't remember , but it was to do with Fightclub? TheoDan ? lol Na ... Something like that.
Spoiler tags are available with the "advance editor" option. This is a reader-oriented area indeed, however we should consider that some readers have not yet read the sample chapters from Winds of Winter, so Omar has kindly asked us to use spoiler tags when discussing those. Feel free to open a thread for any TWoW chapter you'd like to discuss without having to deal with those annoying (but necessary) spoiler tags.
I like this theory. Well it kind off takes away the element of a magic sword. For the life of me I can't understand why they left it out as it would not ave required any exposition re: the blade's name. I also really missed the Valyrian ripples as I'm still having trouble picturing it in my mind. Someone though said something that was very funny, sad and true, in Season 2 why is Jon sharpening Longclaw? It's Valyrian steel!

It says this is a spoiler place^ so we don't have to, it's just stuff from WoW
The reason i add the spoiler tags is that I was informed that not everyone who has read the entire series has (or event wants to) read the preview chapter to WoW.

The simple way is to go into advanced edit when typing your post, highlighting the text you want to put in spoilers and clicking the "SPOIL" icon. That text will be in spoiler tags

Hmm, this place definitely needs a FAQ and some instructions to go along with it. The spell check should work in advance editor, it does for me. Until then, let's discuss and test the options in the Welcome thread, if you all agree.

Yep. User friendliness is a work in progress and Donal Noye is aware. He's doing a bit behind the scenes and
I'm certain the site will improve more each week. I sent a few suggestions a few days ago but he's working
on implementing changes he sees useful for now. I'm just happy we're all here and that we care about this
I really hope they cast Donal and that his death happens ons screen. BTW how the heck do you think they are going to be able to do the Battle of the Wall on budget?

Mayhaps some rich fan of the series will give it a grant, much like the woman who gave marvel a huge grant which lead to the creation of the shared universe culminating in the Avengers film.

Ah man I really don't wish to have angst over that right now, the stakes are high for expectations. That
scene cannot be f***ed up. I will not allow it as COTF spokesperson. I can still see the blue ice and the melt
also feel the cold as GRRM so beautifully described. I'd rather chase away big hawks than worry about that
scene for now. There are others too that I'd not wish to cry about. HODOR HODOR !
Well on a positive note there was an interview a couple of days ago that D@D talked about how to make realistic mamoths on budget which is a good sign. I think we should blame GRRM, writing a story that just begs to be adopted by cinema, but making it so long and complex that any film is impossible to do.

I think we should soon have a separate thread for S3 speculation, oriented towards book-readers. I definitely want to talk about the battle at the Wall and how it could be handled. Just trying to keep things organized. As Omar will probably be doing some changes with the new upgrades, we'll probably have a separate place to discuss S3 very soon.
I'm hoping at the end there won't be an Iron Throne anymore. I doubt there'll be a wall either.
Wishing here that the kingdoms will be divided again, or the wildings will take over with Mance and impose their way. But if there must be someone in the Throne I hope is Tyrion with or without Sansa, with Arya as masterspy and Brienne as Kingsguard lady. I don't think Aegon is gonna make it out alive, nor particularly want to. Can't stand the guy.
Seriously, I'm hoping the North at least will be allowed to remain separate. And maybe Dorne too.

Thanks WildSeed, and welcome, Gabrius_Stark! There's a thread discussing book to tv adaptation of A Storm of Swords here, we were actually wondering about the battle at the Wall as well and would welcome your thoughts there.
On topic: Grrr, I still can't put forward my candidate for the Iron throne, have to do a seriously long elimination process sometime soon.

Tir Airgid, a woman thanks you for your compliment and enjoyed your ideas too!
It is totally understandable that you wish for a more "clean slate" approach to the world of Westeros, where the Iron Throne is no longer the status symbol or unifying factor. After all, Westeros as a unified kingdom was not that old so one could easily say that it wasn't "written in stone." Of course it is possible that the wall will be shattered by some magic or other, that the throne will be destroyed and smaller kingdoms take the place of the unified states of Westeros with a few kings rather than one. The idea of Brienne as Kinsguard is a cool one, I think I also had that one before too, as have others before us. So maybe it's a real possibility since so many want that to happen? We shall see.
Tyrion as king, that's a good thought too, with Arya as master spy...maybe. Anything is possible. Definitely agree that they will survive the series of books to the end. Sansa as Tyrion's wife still? Noooo, I do not see that happening. But will Sansa survive? A woman has faith in her cunning and diplomatic skills. Perhaps Sansa will be on the small council in charge of diplomatic missions, sort of like Secretary of State, until she finds her true knight? It seems a family is her true dream, a woman hopes she will get that dream to come true at the end. Maybe Aegon will bend the knee to the new King of the South and whisk Sansa away to Griff's Roost (if that's what Lord Connington's place was called, trying to recall)?
Its a pet-peeve. I don't like to read stuff out of order, when I read a book I want every single page to be new to me.
I can be very impatient in most parts of my life, but can be very disciplined in this regard.
Perhaps you are of the masochist tilt, but I find reading AsoIaF is worse than knowing the end of a story without hearing it for myself; How many of the people we thought were going to be with us until the end are wormfood now, and we're bairly getting to the crunch!
Also in reply to one calling herself Hghar; A man disagrees that the servants of the many-faced-god would cast out the girl you say was Arya Stark who is dead because she may become unable to control her powers as warg;
Maybe it is beyond my concern but to be civil, the warg is the embodiment of the faceless in all the world, changing skin like si many clothes? I do know though, if the girl you claim is arya stark were to go looking for things that are not hers then the dead girl would be alive and have no place where there is only the gift of death :)
To quote and reply to Ser Aegon's "I really hope they cast Donal and that his death happens ons screen. BTW how the heck do you think they are going to be able to do the Battle of the Wall on budget?"
The battle of the wall is going to be easier and cheaper to recreate than the Blackwater; The wall is high enough to see a throng attacking but only needs a couple of dozen black bastards pretending to be fighting to be convincing:- Oh, and barrels of frozen water! :D
Financial limits may have led to filming in Malta being changed for Morocco but the remaining filming this year will be wrapping up soon while they wait for the next university break which i think is the end of October? It will give a chance to get the indoor work done and edited at least! Anyway about sticking with it; HBO have learned from FOX's mistakes that sticking with cult drama is beneficial in the long run as opposed to quick buck ****e... HBO have not counted the estimated income from sales of merchandise or fees from physical/online rental/resale gains into their financial forecast the way the F-people have for so long!
On a lighter note, have any of you thought about going with niextras in time for the really game-changing (yes, pun intended!!!) stuff next season?

Gabrius, welcome. Mrs H'ghar is unaware as am I of Arya Stark being

"cast out " as a servant for the many faced God,
I'm sure you're referring to the Temple.
she has proven herself and is doing quite well. Book 6 will follow Arya's story

This is probably in reply to a woman's guess as to who would be on the throne and that Arya would leave the Temple at some point and join Dany.
It is not as relevant to the story whether she gets cast out due to some misadventure or realizes herself that she should leave the Temple IMO. It appears we have actually come to the same conclusion in different ways...that Arya will at some point realize that Arya Stark is still alive within her and has questions to answer that will never be answered if she stays in the Temple. Arya does not even realize that she's a warg, only that she has vivid wolf dreams and those come to her without her bidding. Though her traumatic experiences in Westeros caused her to flee for self-preservation and shelter in the Temple due to her need for a feeling of safety, the adventurous and inquisitive nature that is within her will only be satisfied in the Temple for a few years at most. She learns quickly, and when she feels she has learned all she can and has regained her inner strength, she will want to leave and find her way back to Westeros IMO.
A woman appreciates your description of the "warg is the embodiment of the faceless in all the world, changing skin like si many clothes" as it is probable that at some point Arya herself will see that actuality as she learns about face-changing, that perhaps she will have a natural affinity for it due to her warg blood. And at some point, she nay find herself changing into a bird or cat or something near the Temple that makes her realize she's warging IN ADDITION to face-changing and that nobody else in the Temple can do that nor perhaps understand if she describes it. Can't you just imagine a conversation with the kindly man where Arya says she saw certain things on the outside from the point of view of a raven, and then he realizes that it isn't a dream, that those events actually happened and that she has warg abilities. Perhaps it will be the Temple people who explain to her what her ability means and does, certainly possible that they have read of wargs and will recognize it at some point. Will they want her to start using warg ability to kill people? Will they reject her as non- human? Whatever the case, it is this woman's opinion that Arya will find her way to Dany's camp at some point, and perhaps offer herself in service to the Dragon Queen, using all she has learned at the temple to advance a return to Westeros. Eventually, a woman thinks Arya will learn she can warg into a dragon and this will give her immense power (what could be more powerful?), which could lead to her own wish to take the throne for herself once she's made sure her "list" are all dead. All guesses of course.

Possible Maybe. It would certainly make life easier for the short run, until Walder Frey cies out that he
didn't get his fair share along with the treacherous Boltons and arrogant Greyjoys. Hmmm If we got rid
of all the bad apples.. Ugh more rotten seeds sprout up. Oh for an honorable peace accord. Let's meet
at the Isle of Faces for lunch and discuss it. I'll try and keep an open mind
Yes, my concern now is less for who gets the throne than for who gets his/her just desserts. Although expecting justice from GRRM is beyond naiive for a book reader ....
I'll go with Dany on the throne, Tyrion as Hand, Sam as Grand Maester, Brienne as head of the Kingsguard and Arya as Spyder, replacing Varys. Jon still Lord Commander. (Is that speculation in the WOW thread or do we need a new one?)

Dany & Aegon get married and are on the Iron Throne with Brandon Stark as Hand of the King&Queen. Bran gets to ride one of the dragons (because the raven with 3 eyes told him all there is to know about dragons and their training, including their language, which he teaches Dany & Aegon). Drogon will only be ridden by Dany, so one of the other ones has to be ridden by Aegon, and there...the dragon has 3 heads. Old Griff chops off his arm and survives the Grey thingee. Jon Snow lives and stays at the wall (which survives the Others attack) for life though he has found out that he is part Baratheon/Targareon/whatever, not Ned's son after all. After a hot affair with the "wildling princess" which does not yield a bastard. Sam is back at the wall as Maester and Gilly & baby are in Moletown running an Inn (where Sam can stop by now and again, realizing it's OK to not be perfect in an imperfect world). Sansa kills Littlefinger (her Lemoncakes turn out to be deadly), rebuilds Winterfell, brings Rickon and Catelyn back, falls in love with the crippled Martell brother and marries him after Rickon is old enough to take over Winterfell. Nymeria returns to Winterfell and bonds with Sansa (with her new litter) until Arya returns to Westeros. Arya helps Dany, Aegon, and Tyrion defeat the Lannisters and they all bend the knee to the new Targareon King & Queen. Arya re-unites with her family and Nymeria, become the first female Kingsguard member. Rickon marries Marcella Baratheon (after her Dornish prince dies of the flux), ending the Lannister vs Stark wars. She has a way with Shaggydog. Tommen bends the knee to Dany & Aegon, goes back to Casterly Rock with his wife Margaery and Ser Pounce. Cersei lives with Tommen at Casterly Rock, to the eternal consternation of Margaery (who keeps trying to perfect her Lamprey Pie recipe and never pleases Cersei). Final scene, harvest at Winterfell with Rickon in the big chair. Sorry if I spoiled anything GRRM!
Brilliant! EXCEPT: Brienne is the first female Kingsguard and its first female leader. Also: you've got far, far too many happy endings for GRRM. At least half of those people will die before the end. I'll be content as long as Littlefinger suffers horribly and Tyrion ends up happy.

Me neither, but I think death would be too easy and not very interesting for the character. It would be better if the madness completely takes her.
And I agree about her descent into madness being one of the best part of Book 4. But regarding prophecies, we have yet to see one come true, so...

Aegon: Speaking of Robert Strong, am I the only one who is dying to see a " spiritually reborn" Hound facing a "literally reborn" Moutain? That would be pure awesomeness!

No, you're not the only one! And it would have been perfectly forshadowed by the fight in Book One.
And excellent point about the prophesies - maybe they are all like negative ESP: the opposite of reality.
